Anybody who has ever monitored the performance of currently available 2nd and third growth lumber in exterior applications knows that it is nearly useless for replacement service, developing rot quickly when used in exposed areas. Use of what standing first growth lumber remains on the planet is subject to ethical, environmental or even legal considerations. That leaves resawn salvaged lumber, whether standing, submerged or re-used. Here is a source of salvaged wide plank heart of pine flooring planks, sawn from 300 plus years timbers. Timbers are also available. The vendor is Alex Barker, phone 312 550 4776.
